England midfielder Declan Rice has explained why he didn’t celebrate his goal out of respect for his Irish family after scoring in a 2-0 Nations League win
over Lee Carsley in their neighbouring country. Rice scored in the 11th minute and then assisted another Irish player, Jack Grealish. Rice made three
appearances for the Green Giants before switching to England in 2019, where he was heavily booed by the home fans, but refused to celebrate when he scored.
“If I had celebrated it would have been really disrespectful to Ireland,” the Arsenal midfielder said after the game at the Aviva Stadium.
“I didn’t want to do it, to be honest. My grandparents and my dad’s side of the family are all Irish, they’re all gone now. สมัคร ufabet They’re not here anymore. “
I’ve had great memories of playing for Ireland, both senior and youth. I’ve got nothing bad to say. I wish them all the best.”
England captain Harry Kane was replaced in the 85th minute and Rice refused to accept the armband, handing it to John Stones instead.
“Harry tried to offer me the armband but of course John Stones is the senior, more experienced player,” Rice added.
“So I just told Harry to put John on. He’s captain normally, it’s no big deal and I think it’s the right decision.”
